New Year’s Resolutions: What are yours?

Every year the majority of us humans resolve to do something different. According to usa.gov, the top 5 New Year’s Resolutions are…

  1. Lose weight

  2. Volunteer to help others

  3. Quit smoking

  4. Get a better education

  5. Get a better job

Unfortunately, Time Magazine also lists these goals as some of the most commonly broken New Year’s Resolutions. So, that’s the bad news.

Here’s the good news…

If you tie your New Year’s Resolution to the reason behind the Resolution, you will be more successful. What does that mean? Well, here’s a personal example.

Once upon a time, I wanted to lose weight (like I do now, AGAIN). The reason I wanted to lose the weight was to look really good for an upcoming high school reunion. What I did not realize was that I really did not have passion for this upcoming event. Without passion, there was no purpose.

Fast forward a few years, and I am now more focused on not just looking good, but feeling good and living life fully. Having just lost my brother, my mother, and my furry best friend in the past two years, I have a renewed interest in being healthy and enjoying life—nothing makes you re-examine your life than losing someone close to you.

This year… I have a plan. I have a shopping list. And, I have a fitness buddy. But, most of all, I have a REAL reason to get my butt out of bed before 5am and get moving.

So... what will be your New Year’s Resolution this year?

And, what is your real reason behind the Resolution?
